We were planning to host a volunteer event on Sept. 26 for National Public Lands Day, but we had to postpone due to the Mullen Fire. Such is life in 2020. The good news is that we've rescheduled!
Join us Oct. 10 to rehabilitate two old sections of the Aspen Trail on Pole Mountain, which have been decommissioned due to reroutes.
We'll meet at 9 a.m. at the Summit Trailhead, which is on Forest Road 705, just south of the I-80 rest area. Please wear a mask at the meeting location. Following a safety briefing, we'll take a short hike to the work site. At the work site, a minimum of six feet of separation will be needed for tool safety, so you can take your mask off then, if you prefer. Hand tools will be used to rip old trail tread, followed by seeding of native vegetation, and then lastly pulling in dead and downed material to cover the old tread.
To meet distancing and health guidelines, participation is limited to 30 people. The event is free of course, but please register ahead of time (here's the link).
Project work should be completed by 2 p.m.
Please wear closed-toe shoes and bring water, snacks, and work gloves (if you have them). Long-sleeved shirts and pants are recommended. The Forest Service and Common Outdoor Ground will provide hand tools and will coordinate distribution. Some work gloves will also be available for those who do not have their own.
